Why Did The Mailbox Cross The Road

Because the postmaster sent us a letter saying that if the mailboxes weren't moved to the other side of the road by August 25th then they would issue us a post office box in town that we could pay for until they were moved to the other side. :)

The mailboxes used to be on the west side of the road. But when the postmaster did rounds on the rural routes for a safety check, she wanted to eliminate all occasions of the mailman having to do U-turns. Our neighbor, Wayne (aka Wayner...affectionately - but not to his face) got the same letter....since our boxes were right beside each other. So he and John worked together on the project which is a good thing because Wayner has a good builders mind and John has a good strong back and muscles but his mind is better with cattle and horses. It was a good partnership.
Here they are on the east side of the road - directly across from the old site.

This is Diane, Wayner's wife....she had brought them a drink of water. But not from the sprayer on back....just in glasses. She is a great lady and very thoughtful. We are blessed with wonderful neighbors.

Here is Cole with the finished project. He was the cameraman for the group. There are more than two mailboxes you say. Very astute....Wayner's and ours are the big ones and the three small ones are Wayner's other houses that he has put up on his land...one house is for sale and is being rented out, one is a lighthouse (no fooling) that he built for a bed and breakfast and is currently rented out too, and one is in the process of being built and his 4th daughter will move into it when it is done. So that accounts for the rest of the boxes. It took the crew most of the morning but they did a bang up job and it looks really nice. Our mailbox was needing attention anyway because for the last nine years it has been holding on by a thread and we were constantly amazed that it hadn't finally blown off it's post. There is no way an eighth grader with attitude could have leaned against it!
So thank you Mrs. Postmaster....we won't be needing a PO Box.

Wayner? I'm sure if a study was done maybe only 17% of the people who you are acquainted with know how gosh-darn funny you are. A true inspiration for those who need a good belly laugh every once in a while.
