Well, I am a little late with this birth announcement....
We have a bull. Another Jersey bull. Princess calved last week and had the sweetest little calf. He was all the rage at the Fair. One little toddler lay down with him and almost went to sleep. :) He did not suffer from a lack of attention that is for sure.
He is not named yet. This is a "V" year. John tags all his cows with the letter corresponding to the year they were born plus their mothers tag number. I don't know who initially set up the system. It is just one of many tagging systems out there. It is just what works for him. So....he likes to name things, that need a name, with names beginning with the letter that corresponds to the year that they were born too. Clear as mud?
Some years are harder than others to come up with a name. V is a little hard. And, some letters are skipped....like Q and X for example. That would be way too hard.
Ruby, the other milk cow was born in an "R" year and so since U is one of the letters left out....it is easy to figure out that she was born in 2005. Rex, the cat chasing cow dog, was also born in 2005 so we named him an "R" name.
I was hoping for a heifer from Princess and was vacillating (good "V" word - don't you think) between Viola, Veda, and Velma for name ideas for her. But alas, it was yet another bull.
Ruby's March calf was also a bull if you remember and we named him Victor.
So if you have any good "V" name ideas for the little darling, send them our way.
