Red Meets Black

We went to the lake with our friends for Labor Day weekend. It was really windy but still lots of fun. Cole is still bemoaning what will probably be his last sunburn of the season. One of these days he will listen when I tell him to put on sunscreen....maybe.

We made pizza on the grill. Yes. It is possible and it is really tasty too. Just make your dough a little stiffer with a bit of extra flour and roll or pat it out into small rounds and put it on the grill. We were using one of those open top charcoal jobbies that you often find at state parks. It works a little better with a lidded grill....but it worked. Sure....just put the little pizza right on the grill...no need to use a pan or foil...it will not drop through, trust me.

Ok, when the bottom gets a little brown you can turn it a quarter turn if you like or just flip it over and put on your pizza sauce, cheese and whatever toppings you want. When that underside it done...put it on your plate and enjoy your grilled pizza. The really fun thing for us was that we could put whatever you wanted on it. We didn't get real crazy cuz...well....we mostly like pepperoni but you could put peppers, onions, mushrooms....go as crazy as you want!
The kids all really liked it.

We also made pancakes on the grill. Just to clarify....you do need a pan for the pancakes....or they would just go right through. I have a griddle that I put right on top of the grill and we fried sausage in it then cooked our pancakes right on it too. It works pretty slick.

We all rented a cabin which was fun. The snake that decided to move in was not a highlight. Not kidding. Un-believeable I know.

The boys went inside and came out saying there was a snake in the cabin. The men went in and showed it who(m) was boss. What kind you ask? Well.....that was the discussion of the night and the inspiration for the title of this post. It was black, red and yellow striped....horizontally striped. So....was it a King snake or a Coral snake. If someone had gotten bit and tragically died then it would have been a Coral snake. Thankfully - that didn't happen....but it would have been a way to tell. So the guys were trying to remember the rhyme.

In case you need to know....it goes like this:

Red meets Black - poison lack.
Red meets Yellow - kills a fellow.

Hopefully you never have to know that. But just in case....tuck it away.

I will post a few pictures one of these days of our little lake trip. I did not take a picture of the snakes. Oh yes. Plural. The neighboring cabineers found some kind of a snake by their cabin and brought it into their area to play with it a little. O...Kay. The boys thought it was maybe a hognosed snake. The neighbors turned it loose on the rocks when they were done with it. Great. No.....I did not pack my cowboy boots for the weekend....rookie mistake.

Other than the reptiles, we had fun and relaxed and enjoyed the last summer weekend very much.
